Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Paula and Jim Crown Director of Learning will work to create education and public programming for all ages. This includes overseeing Dallas Contemporary’s evergreen programs, planning lectures and screenings in dialogue with the institution’s exhibition programming, coordinating exhibitions tours for all ages, and creating content for the Dallas Contemporary mobile application and digital platforms. The Director of Learning will invest in interdepartmental collaboration to best serve the institution’s mission.


essential functions:

  • management
  • manage the roster of educators, interns, and volunteers who work on educational programs
  • oversee the museum’s front of house staff, including visitor services and art security
  • manage community partnerships, including those with local universities and cultural institutions



  • invite artists and creatives to take part in the Chit Chat series
  • coordinate the annual summer art camp
  • lead tours for adult and youth groups along with the support of the learning and curatorial staff.


interdepartmental collaboration


  • draft text on programming to be used for website and public relations purposes
  • function as a spokesperson for the institution



  • collaborate with the curatorial team to produce educational texts including gallery guides and wall text
  • work with curatorial team to identify speakers for public programming



  • aid in pitching educational programming support including working on grant materials and meeting with prospective supporters
  • work across departments to support grant applications


Performs other duties as assigned. Full time; some weekend and evening hours are required.



The ideal Director of Learning has a Masters Degree in Art History, Museum Studies or Art Education, and substantial knowledge of modern and contemporary art. The position requires a minimum of three years curatorial or education experience in an art museum setting and a thorough knowledge of museum education practices. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience with teaching, managing volunteers, budgets and museum administration. Spanish language abilities are desirable.
